Why Do Certificate or Security Warnings Appear on the W-Fi Network?

Loyola ensures secure Wi-Fi connections using a locally \"self-signed\" certificate issued by ITS, rather than a \"publicly-trusted\" certificate from an external certificate authority (CA). This approach means most devices will not automatically trust the certificate, potentially prompting warnings depending on the device.

The decision to use a self-signed certificate prioritizes security, stability, and usability for the Loyola community. Users may be prompted to trust the certificate when configuring a new connection to the LUC Wi-Fi network, even if the network was previously \"forgotten.\"

Additional Information
ITS advises users to stay vigilant for suspicious activity, such as unexpected prompts to accept a different certificate or encountering a Wi-Fi network named LUC while off-campus. If anything unusual occurs, please report it to the Service Desk.
