Using Wireless Printers in Residence Halls

Body

Wireless printing in Loyola's residence halls is possible but not recommended due to how personal printers connect and broadcast on shared networks. ITS recommends using a USB cable when setting up and using a personal printer.

Note: Wireless printers are discoverable and accessible by other students on the network.

If you choose to proceed with wireless setup, follow the steps below:

  1. Install print drivers: Complete this step off-campus or using a hotspot where both devices are on the same network. Follow your printer manufacturer’s pairing instructions.
  2. Register the printer:
    1. Find the printer’s MAC address (see manufacturer documentation).
    2. Connect it to the LUC-TV-Printers network.
    3. Visit the registration portal and choose your campus.
    4. Select “Other Devices – Students, Faculty, Staff, & NAP.” Complete and submit the form.
    5. Restart the printer.
    6. Print a configuration page and find the IP address. If it starts with 10.201, contact the Service Desk.
  3. Set up via IP address: Use the IP address to manually install the printer on your computer. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for IP-based wireless printing.

Reminder: If your printer is powered off, it may receive a new IP address. Update this in your device’s printer settings as needed. Reconnect to the Loyola Wi-Fi at least once every 180 days to keep the registration active.
