Saving User Data to One Drive
Backing up your data before your computer is replaced during the Loyola ITS PC Refresh program. Without a proper backup, files stored only on your current device may be lost.
Solution: Use Loyola OneDrive or another backup method to ensure your data is available after your replacement.
- Sync or back up your data using Microsoft OneDrive:
- Go to our article: Saving User Data to One Drive
- Select your operating system (Windows or MacOS) for instructions.
- Follow the steps to back up your Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders.
- If you use another backup method, ensure all files are fully backed up before your replacement date.
- Work from your backup copies until your upgrade is complete to avoid losing new changes.
- Do not delete the original files from your current device; they serve as a contingency if needed.
Backing up Browser Bookmarks/Favorites
Backing up browser favorites/bookmarks before your PC refresh.
Solution: Export bookmarks from each browser you use and save them to a secure location (e.g., OneDrive or your backup drive).
- Microsoft Edge: Menu (three dots) → Favorites → More options (three dots) → Export favorites → Save HTML file.
- Mozilla Firefox: Menu (three lines) → Bookmarks → Manage Bookmarks → Import and Backup → Export Bookmarks to HTML → Save file.
- Google Chrome: Menu (three dots) → Bookmarks → Bookmark Manager → More options (three dots) → Export Bookmarks → Save HTML file.
- Safari (Mac): Menu bar → File → Export Bookmarks → Choose location → Save HTML file (default name: Safari Bookmarks.html).
Policies
Ensuring compliance with Loyola data security policies during your backup.
Solution: Follow Loyola’s policies for handling sensitive or protected data.
- Review the Cloud Computing Policy for data classification and storage rules.
- Review the Electronic Security for Protected/Sensitive Data Policy for security guidelines.
- Always store university data in approved systems such as Loyola OneDrive.
