What should I do if I encounter the "access denied" error message?

This error most often occurs if you are attempting to take a test requiring LockDown Browser in another web browser like Chrome or Firefox. Follow these steps:

  1. Close all programs on your computer.
  2. Open LockDown Browser directly, which will automatically navigate you to Sakai.
  3. Start your assessment within the LockDown Browser.

On a Windows computer, the software is located on your desktop. On a Mac, it is located in your “Applications.”

What devices are compatible with Respondus LockDown Browser?

Respondus is not compatible with:

  • Windows 7 or 8
  • ChromeOS on Chromebook
  • iPad devices

If you encounter an error about device compatibility, ensure your Windows or MacBook computer is up to date. If you do not have access to another device, contact the Digital Media Services Equipment Loan Program for a loaner laptop.
