Why Do Certificate or Security Warnings Appear on the W-Fi Network?
Loyola uses a locally "self-signed" certificate for secure Wi-Fi connections instead of one issued by an external certificate authority (CA). This may cause devices to display trust warnings when connecting to the LUC network. The self-signed certificate was chosen to prioritize security, stability, and usability. Users may be prompted to trust Loyola's certificate when configuring a new connection. ITS advises vigilance against suspicious activity, such as unexpected certificate prompts or seeing the LUC network off-campus. Report any concerns to the Service Desk.
Linux Wireless Connection & Registration
Mobile devices often save configuration settings, so it's a good idea to start by forgetting all University networks to minimize potential issues.
Note: These instructions are based on the Android OS. There may be slight variations for other devices, but the general process remains the same.
Forgetting Saved Networks
- Open the Wi-Fi settings menu.
- Click on the LUC network and then click the "Forget" button.
- Repeat step 2 for all University networks (LUC-Guest, LUC-TVPrinter..., Eduroam).
The device should no longer automatically connect to any University network. If this step is successful, proceed to the next section.
Connecting and Registering to LUC Wi-Fi
- Return to the Wi-Fi settings menu.
- Click on the LUC network.
- A configuration window will open, prompting for certain settings:
- EAP method: PEAP
- Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPV2
- CA certificate: Do not validate / Do not verify
- Identity: Enter your UVID
- Password: Enter your password
- Anonymous identity: Leave this field empty
- Click OK.
- Open a browser and navigate to https://www.luc.edu/registernow.
- Select your current campus location.
- Select \"I AM A STUDENT, FACULTY, STAFF, or NAP (contract employee).\"
- Enter your username (UVID) and password when prompted.
- Wait for the registration process to complete (approximately 45 seconds).
- Return to the Wi-Fi network list.
- Turn the Wi-Fi signal off and then back on.
- Verify that the device connects automatically to the LUC Wi-Fi network.

If you're still having trouble, submit an incident to the Service Desk.
macOS Wi-Fi Error: "Move Closer to an Access Point"
This error can occur when macOS connects to a stronger signal from a less-preferred network (e.g., LUC-Guest). This is a known bug in newer versions of macOS. To resolve this issue:
- Turn off the iCloud Keychain. For assistance, visit Apple's support page: iCloud Keychain Support.
- Forget all Loyola-owned networks (LUC, LUC-Guest, LUC-TVPrinter..., Eduroam).
- Restart your Mac.
- Reconnect to the LUC Wi-Fi network.
Windows 11: Unable to Connect After Update
If you are unable to connect to LUC Wi-Fi after a Windows 11 update, you can either forget the LUC network and connect to \"Eduroam\" or uninstall the problematic update:
Uninstalling an Update on Windows 11
- Open Settings by typing \"Settings\" in the Windows search bar and selecting the Settings app.
- Navigate to the Windows Update section.
- Click \"Update history.\"
- Under \"Related Settings,\" click \"Uninstall Updates.\"
- Select the update you wish to uninstall and click the \"Uninstall\" button.
- Click \"Yes\" to confirm and \"Restart Now\" to reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on the update, the uninstall process may take a few minutes.
