Mapping Network Drives While On-Campus and Off-Campus Using a Windows PC or macOS

How Can to Map Network Drives While On-Campus or Off-Campus Using a Windows PC or macOS?

  1. Faculty and Staff:
    1. Log into VPN through GlobalProtect (GP) when mapping network drives from off-campus or when mapping to a personal computer.

Note: Instructions on using the LSA GlobalProtect (GP) client can be found on the UISO website here: GlobalProtect VPN Instructions.

  2. Students:
    1. Students with access should map network drives using an on-campus University workstation.
    2. Note: Current security policies do not allow students, including student workers, to map shared network drives on personal computers without secure access through VPN.
  3. Windows PC:
    1. Follow these instructions from Microsoft's website to map a network drive: Map a Network Drive in Windows.
  4. macOS:
    1. Click on the Finder icon on the Dock.
    2. Click on the "Go" menu and choose "Connect to Server."
    3. Type or paste the full path name of the network drive into the text box (e.g., smb://path_to_drive). Ensure to reverse all backslashes \ into forward slashes /.
    4. Click "Connect."
    5. Enter your username as adms\uvid and your University password.
    6. Click "OK." The network drive should now appear in the Finder.

Note: To access mapped drives from off-campus, you must connect to VPN through GlobalProtect (GP) first.

To request an increase in storage space on a shared network drive, submit a Service Request on the ITS Service Portal
