What is Deep Freeze and How Does it Affect University PCs?
Deep Freeze prevents users from making any permanent changes to a University PC, including installing software. As soon as a user logs off, their profile is removed from the PC. This feature is mandatory for all classroom and public access machines to ensure security and maintenance. If you need to install software on a classroom or public access PC, contact ITS well in advance for assistance.
What is the Inactivity Lock Feature?
The inactivity lock automatically locks a computer after a period of inactivity and logs the user out, removing their profile. Below are the inactivity settings for different types of University machines:
- Public PCs (Non-Instructor):
- Notification of auto logout begins after 10 minutes of inactivity.
- The notification displays for 30 minutes.
- If the notification is cancelled and the screen is locked, only the logged-in user can access the machine.
- Instructor PCs:
- Notification of auto logout begins after 60 minutes of inactivity.
- The notification displays for 30 minutes.
- If the notification is cancelled and the screen is locked, only the logged-in user can access the machine.
- Instructor Macs:
- Notification of auto logout begins after 60 minutes of inactivity.
- The notification displays for 10 minutes.
- If the notification is cancelled and the screen is not locked, anyone can use the workstation.
