How to Add Network Printers to a Personal Computer?
This information pertains to Faculty and Staff who need to set up network printers on personal computers. Please ensure the following pre-requisites are met before proceeding:
- When on campus, the personal computer must be connected to the network via Ethernet or the LUC Wi-Fi.
- When off-campus, the personal computer must be connected to GlobalProtect before installing or printing.
How to Find the Printer's IP Address?
The printer's IP address can be found on its configuration page. Each printer model has a different method for printing this page. Refer to the instructions for common printer models below:
Once you obtain the printer's IP address, proceed with the relevant instructions for Windows 10 or macOS below.
Adding a Network Printer via IP Address on Windows 10
- Click the Windows Start Button and type printers in the search box provided.
- Select Printers and Scanners.
- Select Add a printer or scanner.
- If not selected by default, choose Work or school printer & scanner.
- Select the option The Printer that I want isn't listed (a new window will open).
- Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname, then click Next.
- In the Device Type list, select TCP/IP Device.
- Type the IP Address of the printer you want to connect to.
- Place a checkmark next to Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use.
- Click Next.
- Windows will locate the printer and guide you through any remaining steps to finalize the setup.
