How Do I Recover an Unsaved Office File? 

Follow these steps to recover an unsaved Office file in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint:

  1. Open Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, then select a ‘blank document’.
  2. Click on File, then navigate to the Info tab.
  3. Select one of the following options depending on the file type:
    • Manage Document (Word)
    • Manage Workbook (Excel)
    • Manage Presentation (PowerPoint)
  4. From the drop-down menu, choose:
    • Recover Unsaved Documents in Word
    • Recover Unsaved Workbooks in Excel
    • Recover Unsaved Presentations in PowerPoint
  5. Select your file from the list that appears and click Open.
  6. If the file does not appear, search for the document by entering its name in the File Name field.
  7. Once opened, click Save As in the bar at the top of the file to save it permanently.
