What Are Non-Affiliated Persons (NAP) Accounts?

Non-Affiliated Persons (NAP) accounts are often assigned to contractors, long-term guests, or vendors at the University. These accounts are managed by ITS in the same way as accounts for faculty, staff, and students.

Who Qualifies for a NAP Account?

NAP accounts generally apply to individuals providing services to the University, such as:

1. Consultants
2. Contractors
3. Guest faculty
4. Part-time faculty
5. Vendors
6. Non-credit participants in instructional programs

How Do I Request a New NAP Account?

1. A full-time faculty or staff member may request the creation of a NAP account by completing the service request form for NAP account.

How Are NAP Accounts Managed?

1. NAP accounts expire twice each year: April 1st and October 1st.
2. The system sends reminders to both the account sponsor and the department proxy every week, beginning 30 days before expiration.
3. To stop receiving reminder emails, the sponsor must renew or remove the account. Otherwise, the system will automatically set the account status to "Expired".
4. Expired NAP account holders must contact their sponsor. Faculty with expired NAP accounts must contact the Faculty Administration Department at 773 508 7470, as ITS cannot intervene.

What Happens to LSA Access When a NAP Account Expires?

1. LSA access terminates when the NAP account expires.
2. If a NAP account is restored, LSA access must be requested separately by the sponsor via completing the related service request form.
3. After LSA access is granted, a new certificate may be sent to the NAP account holder by the Service Desk or Information Security.

What Access Do NAP Accounts Have to Microsoft 365?

By default, NAP accounts only have access to the web version of Microsoft 365 applications.

1. NAP accounts cannot access the client version of Microsoft 365 applications due to Microsoft license restrictions.
