Resolving Email Delivery Issues Caused by Mobile Device Misconfiguration

Changes implemented by ITS to improve data security may cause email applications to stop delivering messages or display a notification about the email account being blocked. These issues are typically caused by misconfigurations in pre-installed email apps on Apple or Android devices or by outdated software versions. Here are two recommended solutions:

Option 1: Use the Outlook App

  1. Download the free Outlook app from Apple’s App Store or Google’s Play Store, if not already installed.
  2. If you already use the Outlook app, remove and re-add your Loyola University Chicago (LUC) account to restore functionality:
    1. Open the Outlook app.
    2. Tap your profile icon.
    3. Tap the Settings/gear icon at the bottom left.
    4. Tap the Office 365 uvid@luc.edu bar.
    5. Tap "Delete/Remove account" (No data is lost during this process).
    6. Re-add your University account by following the instructions on the ITS website: https://www.luc.edu/its/services/exchangeonline-email/exchangeonlinefaqs/

Option 2: Reconfigure the Pre-installed Email App

  1. Reconfigure your device’s pre-installed email app to work with Loyola’s Exchange-based data security services.
  2. Follow the step-by-step instructions provided on the ITS website: https://www.luc.edu/its/services/exchangeonline-email/exchangeonlinefaqs/.

Loyola University Chicago uses Microsoft email and data security services, making the Outlook app the preferred one for staying connected to Rambler communications. This app is free for both Apple iOS and Android devices. The built-in/native email apps found on newer mobile devices should configure your university email account with relative ease. Note:

  • If you were already accessing your email account with the Outlook app but have since reset your password or been enrolled in MFA:
    1. Delete the configured Loyola account. No data will be lost during this process.
    2. Re-add your account by following the steps on Microsoft's website linked above. This will fetch your newly changed password and pair the MFA service with the Microsoft Outlook app.
  • If your preferred app does not connect using the Exchange option or requires email server settings, the University's email and security systems may not support it.
