What is Mailbox In-Place Archiving?
Mailbox In-Place Archiving in Outlook refers to the process of moving older or less frequently accessed emails out of your primary mailbox into a separate storage location (archive), helping you manage mailbox size, improve performance, and meet organizational or personal retention policies. This is a mailbox feature provided by Microsoft Exchange/Office 365 that stores older emails in a separate storage space (visible in Outlook), helping you stay within mailbox quotas while keeping access to older content. Outlook will automatically archive emails that are older than two years old.
