How to Search a Shared Mailbox in Outlook?
There are two types of mailboxes in Outlook: personal and shared. When using the default search bar at the top of the Outlook client, it will search your entire personal account by default. To search a shared mailbox effectively, follow these steps:
- Shared mailboxes are not indexed like personal accounts, meaning searches will only return results from the folder you are currently viewing.
- Navigate to the specific folder you want to search (e.g., Sent Items) in the shared mailbox.
- Use the search bar at the top of the message list, which will display "Search accountname - folder name."
- Enter the search term (e.g., "Bob Jones") to find relevant messages within the selected folder.
Using Sorting to Aid Searches:
If your search results are not satisfactory, you can use the sorting dropdown located below the search bar to refine your results. The default sort is Date (Conversations), but you can change it to other options (e.g., From, Subject). Remember to reset it to your preferred sorting method once you're done.
What is Alumni Email for Life, and How Does It Work?
Loyola University Chicago offers the Alumni Email for Life program, which allows alumni to retain lifetime use of their luc.edu email accounts and access to Wi-Fi services on all Loyola campuses. Alumni with current roles at the University, such as Faculty, Staff, or Students (in other programs), may enroll without affecting their current email accounts.
Registration for Alumni Email for Life:
- Visit the registration page: https://www.luc.edu/alumniemail.
- Log in with your Loyola UVID and password.
- If you do not remember your password, visit the Password Self-Service page: https://www.luc.edu/its/services/microsoftselfservicepasswordreset/.
Expired Accounts:
If your Loyola account expired within the last 30 days, emails are recoverable. Accounts expired for more than 30 days will have all content purged from the server and are not recoverable.
Requesting Removal:
To remove your Alumni Email for Life account, submit a Service Request via the ITS Service Portal: Service Request.

How to Forward Your Loyola Email to Another Account in Outlook
Here are instructions for activating forwarding services using Loyola's Outlook Web Access (OWA) site. This will allow for the automatic forwarding of University email to another account.
Instructions:
- Sign in to Loyola OWA at https://outlook.luc.edu.
- Click the Gear icon in the upper right-hand corner.
- Click "View All Outlook Settings" at the bottom.
- In the Settings Menu, click "Forwarding" in the middle column.
- Click the "Enable forwarding" radio button and enter the destination address for your forwarded Loyola email.
- Sign out of Loyola OWA.
Note: The forwarding service will begin within an hour of making the change. The same time-frame applies to a request for stopping mail forwarding.
